Frederick H. Schultz, a prominent Jacksonville civic leader and former Speaker of the Florida House, died in November after a five-year battle with cancer. Schultz, a former banker, had served on the Federal Reserve Board under President Carter. In Jacksonville, he is known for pushing a consolidated city/county government and for championing public education. He was founder of the Schultz Center for Teaching and Leadership [Icon, November 2008].
